The Rev. Shelley McNew, flanked by Blake Boyd, left, and Don Stephens, hogged the spotlight for a good cause in the Kiss the Pig contest.

At Oak Grove UMC Decatur, music director Blake Boyd and Don Stephens, head of the Staff Parish Team, won the contest to “Kiss the Pig,” raising money for the youth group’s trip to Denton Water Works Park.

But the piggy, named Kosher, was a no-show, so Pastor Shelley McNew dressed up like a pig and stepped into the prodigal porker’s place in the kissing booth.

The kiss was the culmination of a drive in which the congregation and friends donated more than $500 in less than two weeks so three carloads of youths and volunteer counselors could enjoy the water park on Aug. 1, have lunch and finish it off with a trip to a yogurt store.
