Here are ideas to make your guests feel warmly welcomed
Christmas is a time when people seek to renew or even start a relationship with Christ. And it is a wonderful time for churches to embrace these seekers.
To help you, the NTC Communications Department is gathering the dates and times of local church Christmas services and events to share via social, electronic and print media to help bring visitors inside your doors. If you have not submitted your events, you can do so by clicking here.
EvangelismCoach.com says our conversations with visitors are key: “A significant conversation is any dialogue that goes beyond gossip, relatives, weather, sports and politics to talk about meaning, intimacy, life purpose, personal growth or faith.”
Use refreshment time to build ties. Train the servers to articulate the core message of the church. Deploy leaders to work the crowd. Follow up conversation in the sanctuary with even deeper conversation in the fellowship hall. Seek out the seeker. Go to the stranger.
Make Christmas Visitors Feel Welcomed
5 Ice Breakers
- “Wasn’t that a great anthem? I especially loved this verse …”
- “Did you see that cute kid? I love our Sunday school because …”
- “I saw 10 people crying during the intercessory prayer. Do you know why?”
- “What I like most about Jesus is …”
- “My seniors group is getting together later tonight. Would you like to join us?”
5 Ways to Greet Visitors
- Have members look for first-time visitors and make an effort to get to know them.
- Explain theological terms. If we use words that are theologically rich, such as "Advent," we must take the time to explain what that means. Likewise, do not assume that visitors know the Bible stories.
- Have adequate signs to guide visitors around your church and parking areas.
- Smile at everyone whether you know that person or not.
- Have a reception after the service to create that context for relationships to occur.
