Dallas South Lay Speakers celebrate completion of six-week spring training
Dallas South Lay Speakers celebrated the completion of a six-week 2009 spring training March 15 as 50 participants received certificates at Warren UMC, Dallas.
Classes offered included Adult Basic I, taught by Evelyn Glass; Adult Basic II, taught by Mae Alexander;
Youth Basic, taught by Debra Lister and Melissa Clay; Youth Advanced, taught by Dorothy Pierce and Sue Hanby; Adult Certified, taught by Dallas South District president Susan L. Grant, Otis Hanby and Larry Wright; and Adult Certifi ed (preaching), taught by Ethleen Lengyon, assisted by Pat Wilson.
Brenda Thomas, Community UMC, Dallas, says that the Dallas South Lay Speakers especially appreciate the strong pastoral support from Superintendent Rev. Milton Guttierrez, whom she calls, "a driving force around the mission of Dallas South Lay Speakers from Day One."
Thomas also had high praise for Director of Lay Speaking Celeste M. Fulbright. She noted, "We owe her for our training, our ability to get up, speak up, then shut up, and our ability to present ourselves appropriately in the pulpit."
"Some of the Lay Speakers have gone on in the ministry; yet, others are participating in various activities lending leadership support. But God does not leave us helpless, for he always furnishes a ‘ram in the bush.’ This time Susan L. Grant carried on the responsibilities as only she could, and she again, and as always, was phenomenal. Others assisting her were Sandra Meador, Director of Education, and the other well-qualifi ed trainers," Thomas continued.
