2009 'WillieBuild' takes on double challenge
4/24/2009
The 2008 WillieBuild team gathers in front of its completed Habitat for Humanity home following dedication ceremonies.
The following reflection shares important news about the third annual WillieBuild Habitat for Humanity/Highland Park UMC, Dallas, Carpenters for Christ “blitz build” scheduled May 9-23.
WillieBuild honors the memory of the late Willie Tichenor, son of Lisa and Mac Tichenor, who died in March,
2006, after a courageous battle with cancer.
The point is this: the onewho sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also
reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:6 – 8

It’s difficult to appreciate ‘abundance’ in tough economic times. It’s hard to feel ‘abundant’ when your IRA is down 30 percent, and when companies and industries that were all but unsinkable are now taking on water. No matter who you are, times like these challenge your ability to live abundantly.
This May, the friends and family of Willie Tichenor will remember how difficult it was to think and feel abundance when Willie was sick. We will remember how Willie gave so freely of his time and energy, when he had so little time and energy left. The truth is that Willie was willing and able to give of those things of which he had a limited supply because he had received the love of God in perfect abundance. Willie would pray or laugh with or visit or counsel whomever needed to know God’s love right then and there, even though it tired him out and made his leg and his lungs hurt and required of him another moment that he would never get back.
To celebrate Willie’s choice to live abundantly during his short life, this year we are going to build TWO houses in this time of great need. That means we get to meet, work alongside and become friends with TWO families instead of one. We hope that you will come and work with us, in Willie’s memory, and in recognition of the abundance of God’s love.
