First UMC, Duncanville, honors 50-year unions

7/24/2009

First UMC, Duncanville, honored members of the church married 50 years or longer with a June 21 celebration hosted by the church’s Family Ministries Committee. A total of 21 participants took part, with five of their marriages totaling 60 years or more. All participants brought memorabilia from their lives together. Seven wedding dresses, cake toppers, photos, newspaper clippings, diaries from weddings and trips, and many more mementoes adorned each table. Each marriage had its own table decorated by the committee. A PowerPoint presentation featured newspaper clippings and other documents, with a background of music from the 1940s and 50s. Wedding cake, punch, nuts and mints represented typical wedding reception fare of the era. In the photo above, Helen and Rev. Worthie Usher, a retired UM pastor, married 60 years, were among those whose marriages were celebrated.
