Instructor training set for marriage seminars

9/4/2009

Rev. Curran

Dr. Hunt

Clergy and laity are invited to participate in a ‘train the trainer’ Growing Love in Christian Mariage (GLCM) event at the Ministry Center on Oct. 1 and Nov. 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This training equips churches to offer GLMC and qualify as an offi cial TWOgether in Texas certifi ed site. It’s an opportunity to learn how to use GLCM as an effective outreach resource for congregations.

The seminar will be presented by GLCM author Dr. Richard Hunt, UM Ordained Elder, and Rev. Wendy Curran, Associate Pastor of Holy Covenant UMC, Carrollton and chair of the NTC Family Ministries/Equipping Disciples Team. Cost is $15 at the door and includes lunch.

Rev. Curran notes that, “The love existing in a family has as its core the healthy, selfless love between husband and wife in the special marriage covenant within God’s covenant with the church as the body of Christ. As Christians we know what makes marriages succeed. Our challenge is to make these principles and skills available to couples around the time of their wedding and with support in their years together. Through our churches we can provide the sustenance and the assistance needed to help keep us connected to God and connected to each other.”

The State of Texas has launched TWOgether in Texas, a marriage education initiative to help couples better prepare for healthy married relationships. Couples who participate in a marriage workshop for a minimum of eight hours can save $60 on their marriage license fee. This is a big opportunity to reach out to couples and
strengthen families.

The official UM premarital curriculum is “Growing Love in Christian Marriage” (GLCM) by Joan and Richard Hunt. This GLCM course shows couples and families how to count on the church for the support, encouragement and spiritual guidance they need to help them develop their fullest potential from the very beginning.
