Core Leadership Team looks inward as it prepares to lead outward

At its retreat in January, the Core Leadership Team looked deep into “the values that we bring to life in our behaviors,our decisions and our actions,” said Rev. Jan Davis, senior pastor of First UMC Rowlett.

Pat Hughes, a consultant from the Center for Ethical Leadership in Seattle, Wash., led the group in developing a list of operational values to help members carry out the North Texas Conference’s Strategic Plan. They met at Prothro Center at Lake Texoma for the overnight retreat.

“I was touched as we gathered in a circle and each person shared something that represents a value of the North Texas Conference that we cherish the most,” Rev. Davis said. “It was evident that as lay and clergy leaders, we love this Annual Conference.”

For Levy LaGuardia, pastor of Umphress Road UMC in Dallas, the retreat “helped me redefine my role and understand where I stand as part of the conference leadership. The spirit of the CLT members was high, empowering and very encouraging.”

“We discovered some interesting things about ourselves and also about one another,” said Rev. Davis.“These discoveries will enable us to work together more effectively . . . in bringing the vision of the Strategic
Plan into realization.”
