Bible-based social justice summer school seeks volunteer teachers

4/20/2007

Volunteer teachers are sought to serve for one week as instructors for Vacation "Micah" School, a program by Warren UMC, Dallas, that teaches the importance of social justice from a biblical perspective.

Vacation "Micah" School will take place Monday, July 23rd through Friday, July 27th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Warren UMC, 3028 Malcolm X Boulevard, Dallas.

To obtain a Volunteer Teacher application, please call the church office, 214-928-7373 or e-mail: warrenumcsocialjustice@yahoo.com. Applications will be accepted through May 10.

The school’s name is derived from the Bible verse, Micah 6:8 which reads "and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."

Classes will highlight some of the historic Dallas civil rights actions that ancestors and elders have fearlessly undertaken. This focused one-week study welcomes students who have just completed kindergarten through high school grades. A special adult class will also be included.

Come and share your joy for teaching and love for biblical study with others while learning more about the local civil rights movement yourself!

Portions of Vacation "Micah" School are funded by a grant from the General Board of Church and Society, a program of the UMC.
