God's Kingdom UMC honors Iraq vet

Veteran's Day took on a special meaning at God's Kingdom UMC, Ferris, as the church celebrated Nov. 18 as "Sgt. DaTrelle Black" Day to honor the young man who grew up in the church and enlisted in the Army because he wanted to serve his country. Sgt. Black, left, with God’s Kingdom UMC pastor, Rev. Darian Pace, was wounded in Iraq during a heroic attempt to disable a roadside bomb. A special offering from the church and community was taken to benefit the Black family.
