May 15 is the deadline for churches to submit an entry in the 2007 Robert L. Robertson Awards of Excellence in Communication competition. The third annual Robertson awards recognize excellence in the areas of photography, newsletters, websites, and direct mail related to evangelistic outreach.
All NTC local churches are eligible and encouraged to participate. An award for excellence is given in four membership categories: less than 250 members, 250-749 members, 750 to 1,999 members, and 2,000 or more members.
The Robertson Awards will be presented at the June 4 Communications Luncheon at 12:05 p.m. in Plano Centre.
Rev. James (Jim) Ozier, pastor of Trietsch Memorial UMC, Flower Mound, will be speaker for the Communications Luncheon. "We asked Dr. Ozier to be our speaker because of the creative and effective ways that Trietsch UMC has employed communications tools and techniques during his 17 years as senior pastor," says NTC Communications Director Dr. Joan G. LaBarr.
Dr. Ozier began his ministry working for famed missionary E. Stanley Jones, and he pastored his first church as a high school student in Illinois. He received his Master of Theology and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Perkins School of Theology, SMU. While at SMU, he received the "Mustang Award" for leadership.
The Robertson Awards are named in honor of the late Rev. Robert L. (Bob) Robertson, who was NTC Area Director of Communication, prior to his death in 2002. Dr. Robertson was a pioneer in church communications and also served with distinction as pastor of several local churches.
All proceeds from entry fees in excess of expenses will go the Robert L. Robertson Scholarship Fund.
Communicators from the Southwest Texas Conference will judge this year's entries. Plaques will be given to recognize all major category winners. Other winners will receive certificates. Bill Ball, Suncreek UMC, is award competition coordinator.
"We also want to thank Bill Ball for his hard work. He has worked diligently to make sure that each year's Robertson Award competition grows in quality and quantity and does a superb job of organizing and handling the many details that such an effort demands," Dr. LaBarr adds.
