Creekwood UMC, Allen, construction underway
Prayer cards written by members of Creekwood UMC, Allen, literally become part of the foundation of the congregation's first church building.
As concrete flowed for the foundation for the new Creekwood UMC, Allen, building, the prayers of the congregation became part of the structure.
Pastor Rev. Mary Beth Hardesty-Crouch explains that members wrote their prayers for the church on cards that were then placed at the site before the concrete trucks rolled up to begin the foundation pour for the 14,000 sq. ft. facility.
Scheduled to be complete in fall, 2007, the new building will be Phase I of the Creekwood complex that is located at Stacy Road and Country Club Road (FM 1378) in the Allen/Fairview area of Collin County.
Rev. Hardesty-Crouch celebrated the big step as the foundation is poured and says that the new building will increase visibility for the church, as well as awareness in the fast-growing community. The congregation has met in the Lovejoy Elementary School for the past five years.
The new building is right next door to the school. When complete, the facility will include worship and program space, as well as an outdoor amphitheatre platform.
Creekwood UMC was begun as a part of the VISION 2020 commitment to plant 100 new congregations by the year 2020.
At the ceremonial groundbreaking last fall, Rev. Hardesty-Crouch said, "God has not been waiting for us to build a foundation. God laid the foundation a long time ago."
She notes that dedicated people have worked hard to build the church, giving selflessly to do God work, even as they gathered in a school building.
Members of the Building Committee include: Charlie Crane, Jennifer Dicks, Pete Heres, Steve Howard, Jeff Jones, Gary Metzler, Barb Roehrig and Rev. Hardesty – Crouch.
Barrie Heres is liaison from the Strategic Planning Team. W.B. Kibler is the general contractor for the project.
