Stewardship

Stewardship is grounded in the scriptural understanding that the world - indeed the universe - is God's creation. From the book of Genesis and throughout the Bible, God mandates that humankind care for this incredible gift with thankfulness to God and generosity to others.  God also asks that a portion of what we have received be given back for the purpose of carrying out God's ministry in the world.  So, as good stewards, we are challenged to support the church of Jesus Christ, as we give thanks for God's great faithfulness.

The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church charges annual conferences with assisting local churches in planning and promoting a comprehensive program of stewardship for people of all ages, including stewardship education, proportionate giving and titihing, funding the Church's ministries, planned giving, time and abilities, economics and money management and lifestyle.

One of the ways that local churches practice faithful stewardship is by paying their apportioned share of the ministry we share as United Methodists. The NTC Council on Finance and Administration and Commission on Communications has developed a PowerPoint presentation on the apportionment and where these funds are invested in ministry. This resource is available by calling the Communications Office at 972-490-3438, 800-969-8201, or e-mail: labarr@ntcumc.org.

Local churches can also access excellent stewardship resources and consultation services through the Texas Methodist Foundation (TMF). For more information, click here.

Excellent stewardship resources can be found on the Stewardship website of the United Methodist General Board of Discipleship, and can be accessed on website.
