A Pilgrim's Journey

Justice for Our Neighbors Dallas was formed in July of 1999 to offer free quality immigration legal services as a response to the many injustices experienced by members of hard working neighborhood families in the Southeast Dallas area.

As one of eleven sites chosen to be part of a pilot program by the United Methodist Committee On Relief, JFON has utilized over 400 community & church volunteers to assist individuals and families from more than 35 countries around the world.

This exciting program seeks to link churches, volunteers and immigration attorneys with immigrant newcomers seeking assistance in filing for various types of immigration status or needing questions answered regarding immigration policy.

Shelter from the Storm

Every year thousands of pilgrims begin a quest for a goal believed to be sacred: A place of safety and productivity for themselves and their families. They arrive here as strangers in our midst looking for signs of hospitality. Through this unique immigration ministry, churches reach out to these seekers with a smile, words of hope, reliable immigration assistance, as well as referrals to schools, community organizations, citizenship classes, and shelter from abuse.

The Mission of JFON

  • To provide free, high quality, immigration legal services and warm welcome to immigrants in our congregations and communities and at the same time encourage cross - cultural community building.
  • To promote education for ministry and advocacy as an integral part of the JFON program and to encourage deeper theological reflection on biblical imperatives that clarify the moral issues raised by US immigration policy and by our nation's treatment of newcomers.

Advocacy

As communities continue to change and as more people immigrate into our midst, churches struggle with how to welcome and treat the immigrants in their midst. Justice For Our Neighbors can help churches reflect upon these changes, understand the plight of the immigrants in their communities, and help the churches begin to be advocates for those who find themselves estranged in our communities.  We welcome invitations to speak with churches, Sunday School classes, small groups, mission committees and others interested in learning more about Justice For Our Neighbors and the Biblical response to immigration.
