FUMC Richardson prepares 142,928 meals to fight hunger
Mission: Fight Hunger
What does it take to prepare 142,928 meals in one day? If you ask First United Methodist Church Richardson, the answer is simple: 600 willing volunteers plus a special Easter offering to pay for 10 pallets of rice, dehydrated vegetables and protein-vitamin powder.
First United Methodist Church Richardson held a Stop Hunger Now bagging event on Sunday, April 7, 2013. The 23,988 quart-size bags that were filled will provide nutritious meals to children in developing countries. Just add water! This project allowed hands-on mission experience for all ages (participants were 4 years – 94 years) to make an impact across the globe.
“It was so special to see our church come together for this project, knowing that hungry people will be fed as a result,” says Beth Smith, church member and the church’s director of leadership development. “People working side by side who might never have had contact with each other, getting to know one another, was just an added benefit.”
Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief organization that coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid around the world and promotes a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources.
