2016 Nominations Process

By Linda Parks
Conference Lay Leader and Chair of the Conference Nominating Committee

The Conference Nominating Committee follows the process begun three years ago by having people submit Profile Sheets for their area of interest to be used as a guide to fill the multitude of vacancies annually and throughout the year. The focus and responsibility for being nominated is now shifted from the committee to individual clergy and laity of the NTC. The profile sheet serves as the first and primary resource for the committee to fill vacancies before anything else is considered. All but two of our boards, agencies and committees have vacancies this year. That is approximately 140 vacancies needing to be filled for this quadrennial 2016 year thus creating the great need for clergy and laity of our conference to step up and offer themselves for consideration.

The “Leadership Nominations Booklet” details all committees and positions available and is posted on the NTC website. Those interested in a position can use the booklet as a guide to research the opportunities and decide where they can best serve, based on position description and an individual’s gifts and graces. For our leadership groups to do effective, quality work, the members need to be people with a special interest in a specific area and the gifts to get the work done.

Interested persons can submit a profile sheet to the Ministry Center or complete the online version by January 15, 2016. The profile sheet serves as the most important resource and provides the Nominating Committee with basic information that will allow the committee to place the most qualified person into a vacancy – with a commitment for inclusive leadership.

The recommended report by the Nominating Committee goes to the Core Leadership Team and Extended Cabinet to assure that the report is inclusive and represents NTC membership. The final report is presented at Annual Conference for approval.

We need clergy and laity to assist in the filling of 140 leadership positions for the North Texas Conference so we have the most creative and productive groups working on behalf of our conference and local churches.
