How We Can Respond to 2016 Floods in Louisiana
August 19, 2016
Greetings to the United Methodists of North Texas,
News accounts, pictures, and videos of the flooding in Louisiana show the devastation tens of thousands of people have experienced. United Methodists in Louisiana are responding to this crisis affecting their neighbors. Many of you have asked what you can do.
I invite you to make a gift through your local church for Louisiana disaster relief. As these funds are gathered, the North Texas Conference will send them to the Louisiana Annual Conference for their use in recovery and relief efforts. Also, flood buckets are needed, which can be brought to the Ministry Center at 500 Maplelawn Drive, Plano, Texas.
Rev. Marji Bishir Hill, our Disaster Response Coordinator, has contacted the captains of our Early Response Teams in our annual conference for service in Louisiana. Already, she has been in conversation with leaders in Louisiana who will direct the recovery efforts. Many rebuilding teams will be needed in the next few years, so consider sending your mission teams there in 2017.
With any disaster or tragedy, many want to immediately go to the affected sites or send goods and clothing. This type of response actually creates more work and confusion.
The following link provides detailed information about how you and your church can respond:
Thank you for your compassionate responses for our brothers and sisters in Louisiana.
