Amigos Days is Under Way! April 27, 2017
This amazing ministry called “Amigos Days” is under way. The first week is done!
It is always so inspiring, year after year, to witness the dedication of church volunteers working alongside sister churches, collaborating in doing what Jesus did and taught us to do: love thy neighbor. This love is visibly demonstrated and is tangible because through this ministry we help improve the dwelling places of families in our communities. With scraping tools, paint brushes, hammers, nails and a plethora of power tools, we do Jesus’ work.
Metro District Superintendent, Rev. Cammy Gaston, toured the sites during this first week. She is not new by any means to this ministry — Cammy has been long involved in it. However, it does not matter how long one has been part of Amigos, every year excitement is anew, for when we encounter and meet the homeowners, listening to and learning their stories, we know we are in the right place doing the right thing. It is worth it. A lot.
We pray for more churches to join us in the future. This is a unique opportunity to do mission work in our vicinities since most of the cost (all materials) are provided by the City of Dallas organization People Helping People. Please, consider being in ministry with us and include us in your mission planning. Really, all it takes is showing up and getting the work done.
We thank those that are participating this year, and to those who did in the past, we thank you, too. Your work continues to make a difference to those who are coming after you — you laid the pathway.
Grace and kindness.
