#ChurchToo Conference on Sexual Abuse: April 14, 2018
Conference on Recognizing, Preventing and Addressing Sexual Abuse
April 14, 2018
1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In our communities of faith — the places that are supposed to be safest, that offer us sanctuary and speak words of hope and liberation to us, we oftentimes find ourselves victimized by tragic harm against our personhood — sexual assault, abuse, and harassment. As persons of faith, we will gather on April 18, 2018 at FUMC-Denton to say that we will no longer tolerate abuses of power, harmful theologies, or the silence of the church. We will share our stories, learn how to be effective allies for survivors, develop survivor-centered theologies, and become agents for change.
We invite you to join us for this powerful event to receive training from our Keynote Speaker, Hillarye Hightower of Denton County Friends of the Family, hear music from the Denton Wesley Foundation and Open Worship bands, listen to a powerful message from Plenary Speaker Rev. Anna Marie Peterson, and attend workshops ranging from labyrinth walks to sessions on how to tell our stories, use the Bible to mobilize people of faith, identify warning signs of abuse, and develop a language to talk about “blurred lines” relationships.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 with a Student ID (plus taxes and fees).
