Calendar Deadline


September 21-23, 2014 P & Q Orientation for Ordination Candidates. Residency Retreat. Prothro Center.
By October 1, 2015 Contact Duane VanGiesen at about applying for Ordination and Full Membership.
By October 1, 2015 Reflection Paper due to Residency Group Facilitator (to be used for On-site visits.)
By October 15, 2015 Completed background check form faxed directly to BOM Registrar, April Johnson Bristow Fax: 972-996-0140.
By November 1, 2015 Notify Duane VanGiesen or Janet Thompson upon completion of the ‘Reference Form’ on Pathways.
By November 15, 2015 New psychological evaluation (if applicable) in possession of the BOM Registrar,April Johnson Bristow.
By December 1, 2015 Candidate’s On-Site visit report.
Final Deadline – December 4, 2015 Requirements for Ordination must be completed on Pathways.


* No candidate will be scheduled for an interview unless the candidate has
completely fulfilled all requirements by December 4, 2015.

Note I: Deacon Candidates: Due to the unique call to ordination as a Deacon, it is recommended that Deacon candidates attend at least one (1) national retreat presented by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. A formation event is offered prior to Commissioning and a provisional event is offered prior to Ordination. Information about these events is sent to the Chair of the Order. Registration fee and cost of the retreat is covered by the Division of Ordained Ministry/Deacons and Diaconal Ministries. Participants are responsible for their own travel costs. Candidates may apply for Ministerial Education Funds to supplement travel costs.

The Interview Process

Interview with the Committee on Preparation and Qualifications

The candidate should be prepared to discuss the following in the interview process, which will focus on:

  • Theology and Doctrine
  • Worship and Proclamation
  • Call, Service and Disciplined Life
  1. Call to ministry
  2. Sermons and Bible Study
  3. Answers to The 2012 Book of Discipline questions
  4. The meaning of the Sacraments and the Wesleyan way of Salvation
  5. Understanding of Ordination as a United Methodist
  6. Any part of The 2012 Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, especially Part III, page 45
  7. Any information in the references, ministry experiences, psychological evaluation, or background/credit history
  8. Understanding of United Methodist Polity, including itinerancy
  9. Strengths and weaknesses and how the choice of ministry as a profession affects lifestyle

Interview Dates

Upon receipt of all items listed above, the candidate will be notified by the Chairperson of P&Q of the interview time. Interviews will be held February 21, 22, 23 & 24, 2016 at the Prothro Center, Lake Texoma.
