Tips for Taking Better Photos
Nov. 8, 2017
9 a.m. – Noon
Presenter: Vernon Bryant
This workshop will include a Q&A, examples of Vernon Bryant’s work, stories from the field, a breakdown of the digital camera and its functions, as well as exercises and tips to take better photos that tell a story.

Telling Your Story, Sharing Your Faith
This workshop was held on Oct. 11, 2017. Mary Brooke Casad shared how to take your everyday experiences of God and translate them into a written devotional that will encourage and inspire others. Participants received an overview of devotion writing styles for books, blogs, etc. used by Christians for daily prayer and meditation.
Powerhouse Communication: Social Media, Video and Photo Excellence
This workshop took place on June 7, 2017. Michael Graves and Wil Murphy helped empower individuals, teams, and pastoral leaders to communicate more effectively using social media, video and photography. The training offered tricks, tips, tools and practical application to show participants how to take charge and communicate better with their audience.
Communication 3D – Design, Develop, and Deliver More Powerful Sermons and Presentations
This workshop took place on April 12, 2017. The training was presented by Rev. Edlen Cowley, Senior Minister at Fellowship UMC in Trophy Club, Texas. Rev. Cowley helped pastors develop a practical and personal approach to sermon/sermon series conception, development and writing. He also covered how sermon development impacts the entire worship team from music selection, graphics, and marketing, as well as invitation and evangelism strategies.
Are You Scaring People Away from Your Church?
This workshop took place on Feb. 22, 2017. Chris Allen, owner of three FASTSIGNS centers, discussed how to use signs, billboards, posters and other print media to communicate better in the church. Remember, when looking at your signage, pay attention to your layout, colors, and the message you want your audience to understand. We are all judged by First Impressions.
Supercharge Your Church Website to Attract First-time Guests with Patrick Steil
This workshop was held on Jan. 11, 2017. The session covered important design principles for populating your church website to be welcoming to visitors.
How to Write Like a Journalist with Sheron Patterson and Linda Johnson
This workshop was held on Dec. 7, 2016. The seminar reviewed trends in communication, both online and print, and taught techniques to make writing compelling.
United Methodist Communications Workshop: Getting Media Coverage for Your Church Event with Jenn Rodia
This workshop took place on Nov. 9, 2016. The presentation focused on understanding what reporters need to get your church event covered by the local media.
Email Excellence with Wendy Campbell
This workshop took place on Oct. 12, 2016. This session was geared for ministry leaders who want to communicate effectively and communicators who want to make sure they are up to date on current best email practices.
Social Media and Ministry with Dr. Greg Neal
This workshop took place on Sept. 21, 2016. The training reviewed social media ministry options on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and SnapChat.
Effective Mobile Communication
This workshop took place on June 8, 2016. The training covered how to plan and create videos to deliver powerful messages using your phone and how to use different social media platforms.
